Massive Sort Out

Today, I had a huge sort out. We had a massive backlog of Bric, (Bric-a-brac) which really needed sorting. We had boxes and boxes of bric, which I sorted through. Anything that was unsalable, got thrown away. We had these really filthy mugs, which needed cleaning, so I used elbow grease and a bit of Cif Cream Cleaner and got them back to white. After lunch, I sorted our toolbox. Don’t ask me why we had 15 pairs of scissors in there…. They went into the sharps bin.

Next was the top of the kitchen cupboard. I moved the Britta Filters to the cupboard under the sink (also known as the Facilities Cupboard) and I chucked away a load of bags of crisips that had gone off. (2024!)ย  I also chucked the cheeseboard and knives, as they in a very bad state. As I had to cover the till, I didn’t manage to finish what I was doing. I want to fully damp dust the top of the cupboard, so it is clean. I did however, manage to get a framed newspaper clipping about our shop hung on the wall. It had been on my list of things to do, for a couple of weeks.

Trying to get out of work was a nightmare! I had customer after customer and wanted to get them all served, before I left. Then when I did leave, I got to the bus stop and realised I still had my radio in my pocket. I managed to nip back and take it in and still get the 15:10 bus. I was yaking to Kira all the way home, as she got on the same bus as me.

Wet Wet Wet (And No, Not the Song)

The weather today has deffo been wet. On the way to the shop, I got soaked and had to borrow a pair of trackies from the stock room, as mine were soaked through. At the shop, I spent most of the morning on the shop floor. This was because of the rain. Our floor got absolutely drenched, by the customers coming in and out. So, I had my mop and bucket on standby and kept mopping the floor. Of course, I had the wet floor signs out, to warn people that the floor was slippy.

Then when the rain finally stopped, I was able to cover Maria on the till. That was a baptism of fire, as the till kept crashing. After several attempts (and after having to get Bethan and restart the till 3 times) the till finally started to work. Thankfully, Pat was coming on duty, so the till was no longer an issue for me. However, toilet checks were now over a hour past their due time, so I nipped up and had a quick brew, before going into toilet cleaning mode.

Thankfully, myself Maria, Bethan and Kira are quite clean, so the loos were not too bad. I almost missed the bus home, as I had to go back and take my lanyard back in. Can’t loose that, it has my locker key on it!!!!!

Tomorrow, I have the Health and Safety checks to do. – Emergency Lighting, Fire Fighting Equipment, making sure the exit routes are clear and of course the Fire Alarm Test. I am hopefully meeting up with my friend Chris at 1 and going to lunch. I don’t where though, but it will be good to have a catch up. Thankfully, I have my trusty radio, if I am needed in the meantime.ย  I have not seen Chris in years, so be good to catch up.

Another 40 mins and I will be taking Splodge round to Steph’s for a play, while we watch Shameless. ๐Ÿ™‚

Another Busy Day At BHF

It has been another busy day at the shop today. I have been an apprentice till operator, so my ‘Work Wife’: Maria, has been showing me the ropes. I got the hang of it quite quickly! So for once, I was on the shop floor all morning!

At lunch, myself and Maria managed to miss each other again, as we were both going to Macci’s for lunch, but managed to both be in the wrong place at the wrong time!!!!

Then I ended up using my deck brush to scrub the lino in the loos, locker room and the kitchen as part of my daily clean. The Lino has never looked so clean! You can click here, to view my post on cleaning Safety Lino.

I did manage to pick up a bargain though – a really nice hoody, with staff discount. (ยฃ1.50, which is a real bargain!!)

I’m on the air now with Drivetime.

The Right Way to Clean Safety Linoleum

Safety Linoleum is very useful in kitchens and toilets, because it is non slip. However, due to the way it is made, it can be a pain to clean. This is due to the surface, which feels abrasive to touch. Normal Linoleum on the other hand, is smooth to touch.

Safety Linoleum, is harder to clean, because of the abrasive surface, which helps your feet grip. Mopping alone, will not get rid of the deep down dirt, which will make the lino look dirty and worn. However, it is not too hard to keep a floor with this kind of covering clean.

The below video, will show you the correct way to clean safety lino, restoring it to it’s former glory. This is the procedure I follow at work, when cleaning the safety lino in our toilets and kitchen. These floors get a deep clean every Sunday.
